Terms and conditions
1. About the service
SmartBook is a booking platform that connects customers with service providers. SmartBook acts as a marketplace operator and is not itself the provider of the services being booked. There is no monthly fee or subscription.
2. Booking and payment
When you make a booking, a contract is formed between the customer and the relevant business. Payment is processed via Stripe. The guest pays the listed service price (and any security deposit). SmartBook deducts a platform fee of 8% of service revenue (including add-ons and packages) from the payout to the business. Security deposits are excluded from the fee — the business receives 100% of the deposit. The fee is not added on top of the price the guest pays. SmartBook absorbs Stripe processing fees within its share. Payouts to the business are made monthly via Stripe, normally on the 1st of the month, once funds are available for payout.
3. Refunds
When a service amount is refunded, the guest receives back what they paid for the refunded portion. The 8% platform fee is not credited. SmartBook keeps the fee in the same way Stripe keeps its processing fee. A security deposit is not charged at booking; the card is stored and charged only if documented damage occurs. Refunds are processed via Stripe.
4. Right of withdrawal
Under Norwegian consumer law, you have a 14-day right of withdrawal from the date of purchase. If the service is performed before the withdrawal period expires, with your consent, the right of withdrawal lapses for the part of the service already delivered.
5. Cancellation
Cancellation rules vary by business and are shown before booking. As a general guide: full refund when cancelling more than 24 hours in advance, 50% refund 12–24 hours in advance, no refund within 12 hours.
6. Limitation of liability
SmartBook is not responsible for the quality of services delivered by businesses on the platform. Disputes between customers and businesses should be resolved directly between the parties.
7. Privacy
See our privacy policy for information about how we process personal data.
8. Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by Norwegian law. The venue for disputes is Nord-Troms og Senja District Court.
